Affordable Universities in Malaysia for Indian Students (2026-27)

Can you get a recognised Malaysian degree without a heavy budget? Yes - and "affordable" does not mean second-rate here. These are real published fees from Malaysia's best-value universities, in rupees, checked 31 October 2026.

01

The value champions, with real numbers.

Universiti Malaya (UM) - Malaysia's highest-ranked university, QS 58th in 2026. Public universities charge international students modest published totals for the whole degree:

  • Computer Science: RM 89,200 total programme (about Rs 20.9 lakh at RM 1 = Rs 23.4437, 29 October 2026)
  • Business Administration or Economics: RM 77,100 total (about Rs 18.1 lakh)
  • Engineering: RM 132,100 total (about Rs 31.0 lakh)

Sunway University - private, strong value. BSc (Hons) International Business: RM 39,600 per year (about Rs 9.3 lakh), three years, intakes in January, April and September - from its own course page.

Asia Pacific University (APU) - private, technology-focused. Its published fee schedule puts a three-year computing degree around RM 108,500 in total (about Rs 25.4 lakh) - see our APU guide for the exact figures.

02

Read "cheap" the right way.

  • Public vs private: UM's totals are the lowest for the ranking you get - but public universities are more selective and less flexible on intakes. Private universities like Sunway and APU cost more per year and admit more flexibly.
  • Totals beat yearly figures: always compare the full-programme cost, not a per-year number - and add living costs (RM 1,500-2,000 a month by a university's own published estimate).
  • Recognition first: an affordable degree only counts if the university is recognised - every name above is an established, officially listed institution.
03

The honest bottom line.

A recognised Malaysian bachelor's can cost Rs 18-31 lakh in total tuition - a fraction of the UK, Australia or Singapore - with living costs Kerala families find familiar. Affordable here is a strategy, not a compromise.
