Engineering in Malaysia for Indian Students: Courses, Fees, Real Choices (2026-27)
Is Malaysia good for engineering? Yes - strong accredited programmes, English-medium teaching, and published fees far below the UK or Australia. Here are real figures from official pages, in rupees, checked 31 October 2026.
Real fees across three university types.
Public research university: Universiti Malaya's Bachelor of Engineering programmes (civil, mechanical, electrical, chemical, biomedical) are published at RM 132,100 for the full degree for international students - about Rs 31.0 lakh total (RM 1 = Rs 23.4437, 29 October 2026). UM is 58th in the QS World University Rankings 2026.
Foreign branch campus: Monash University Malaysia's Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) runs RM 68,160 per year for international students (2027 intake) - about Rs 16.0 lakh per year. The University of Nottingham Malaysia's MEng programmes are RM 69,000 per year (2027) - about Rs 16.2 lakh.
Private Malaysian university: APU's technology and engineering programmes sit in a similar band to its published computing fees - see our APU guide for exact figures from its official schedule.
What to check beyond fees.
- Accreditation: look for the programme's MQA listing and, for engineering specifically, accreditation by the Engineering Accreditation Council (EAC) under the Board of Engineers Malaysia - EAC accreditation is what keeps Washington Accord recognition and professional-registration routes open.
- Duration: Malaysian engineering honours degrees are typically four years - compare totals, not per-year figures.
- Specialisations: chemical, civil, electrical, mechanical, mechatronic and software routes differ widely by university; shortlist by the branch you actually want.
The honest case for Malaysia for engineering.
A recognised four-year engineering degree for Rs 25-65 lakh total tuition, English-medium, with modern labs and industry-linked teaching, four hours from Kerala - against Rs 1 crore-plus in the UK or Australia for the same family of degree. For many families the maths decides; the quality holds the decision.
