MBBS in Malaysia Fees: Real Numbers for Indian Families (2026)

What does an MBBS in Malaysia actually cost? Here are real, published fee pages from three medical schools Indian students ask about most - Monash, Newcastle and Manipal - converted to rupees with every tax basis labelled. Checked 31 October 2026.

01

The three real fee pages.

Monash University Malaysia - Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine (BMedSci/MD), 5 years. Annual tuition for international students, 2027 intake: RM 148,320 per year, as published (no service-tax line shown on the page). About Rs 34.8 lakh per year at RM 1 = Rs 23.4437 (29 October 2026), roughly Rs 1.74 crore over five years. General fees: RM 100 application, RM 200 registration, RM 100 per semester amenities.

Newcastle University Medicine Malaysia (NUMed) - MBBS, 5 years. Annual tuition RM 134,200 plus 6% SST of RM 8,052 = RM 142,252 per year with tax. About Rs 33.3 lakh per year with tax; five years of tuition comes to roughly Rs 1.67 crore, plus a one-time 5-year visa fee of RM 8,000 (about Rs 1.9 lakh).

Manipal University College Malaysia - MBBS International, 5 years. Priced in US dollars: USD 14,500 per semester x 10 semesters = USD 145,000 total programme fee. About Rs 1.38 crore at USD 1 = Rs 95.1526 (29 October 2026). Plus a USD 300 application fee (about Rs 28,500) and USD 1,000 with the first semester (about Rs 95,200).

02

Read the numbers fairly.

These are three different universities, three published bases, one honest comparison:

  • Monash and Newcastle fees are per year in ringgit; Manipal's is a full-programme figure in dollars - that is why we converted everything to rupees and said the basis beside each number.
  • Newcastle is the only one of the three that shows the 6% service tax as a separate line; treat the others as published.
  • Living costs are not included here - for that, see our accommodation and cost guides, which use official and university-published figures.
  • Fees change by intake. The number that matters is the one on the university's own page for your intake, on the day you apply.
03

What this means for your family.

A Malaysian MBBS from these schools runs roughly Rs 1.4-1.75 crore in tuition over five years - real money, and worth planning in rupees from day one. Malaysia's advantages are proximity, no capitation or donation culture at these universities, English-medium teaching, and fee pages that publish exactly what you will pay.

Planning to practise in India afterwards? That path runs through the NMC's Foreign Medical Graduate regulations and the FMGE screening exam - read our companion guide before you decide, because eligibility rules shape which course structures work.
