What changes the number.

Location is the biggest lever

Central Kuala Lumpur sits at the top of the range, while cities like Cyberjaya and Johor Bahru - where several branch campuses are - typically cost less.

On-campus or university-linked housing

Where offered, usually the simplest first-year option; private rentals give more space for the money once you know the city.

These are one university’s planning figures for its own area, not a fixed Malaysia-wide cost - your university’s own estimates are the ones to budget from.

Practical advice.

1

Book before you fly

Book your first accommodation before you fly, even if only for the first months - arriving to a confirmed room makes the medical screening, endorsement and settling-in week far easier.

2

Keep the deposit in your budget

It is one-time but real, and it is due before you move in, not after.

Where Emir fits.
